How to Compress an Image to 100 KB (Step by Step)
← Blog · Updated 8 October 2026
Application forms, job portals and ID uploads often limit photos to 100 KB. Here is how to get there without ruining the picture.
How file size works
File size depends on the number of pixels and the quality setting. A 12-megapixel phone photo has far more pixels than a form needs, so you can reduce both.
Steps
- Open Compress to 100 KB.
- Select your photo or take one with the camera button.
- Choose JPG as the output for forms, then press Compress Image.
- Download the result and check that it looks clear.
Tips to keep it sharp
- Resize first if the form needs smaller dimensions. Fewer pixels means less quality has to be lost.
- Choose JPG for photos. It is accepted almost everywhere.
- Try 150 or 200 KB if 100 KB looks soft and the form allows it.
Other limits: 50 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB. To shrink many photos together, see Compress Multiple Images.
Questions
Why does my photo look blurry after compressing?
The size limit may be very small for a large detailed photo. Resize it first, or choose a larger limit.
Is my image uploaded?
No. Compression runs in your browser.
